The Central Agricultural University has been established by an act of Parliament, the Central Agricultural University Act, 1992 (No.40 of 1992). The Act came into effect on 26th January, 1993 with the issue of notification by the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Govt. of India. The University became functional with the joining of first Vice-Chancellor on 13th September, 1993.

One handful of Hope
It is a matter of immense pride for CAU fraternity that, One minute video on Soil entitled *” One handful of hope “* submitted to FAO by group of CAU faculty members *Dr. Sabyasachi Majumdar, Mr. Aman Kumar, Dr. Laxmanarayanan Muruganatham, and Prof. Dwipendra Thakuria* from India has secured the **first position* in the “Soil in 1 minute video contest”
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. Anupam Mishra, Director of Instructions Prof. Indira Sarangthem, and other faculty members of CAU met with Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture and Family Welfare Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan ji. The Hon’ble Minister appreciated the work being done at CAU Imphal and encouraged the team to continue the good work under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor. He also shared a video message on his social media platform, commending the local products of North East India.
